What is Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Attestation?

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) attestation is the process by which documents are legalized for international use. This is to ensure the authenticity and validity of personal and academic documents.

Which Documents Does MOFA Attest?

MOFA attests to the following documents:

    • Academic Certificates: Inter, FSc, university degrees, and transcripts.
    • Personal Documents: Police Character Certificates, Birth certificates, Marriage and Divorce Certificates, Medical Certificates, Passport copies, and Family Reunion Visa (FRV) Documents, Experience Certificates, Power of Attorney etc.

Requirements for MOFA Attestation

The attestation of the MOFA requires preliminary verification by relevant authorities before submitting the documents. This includes:

    • School-level certificates- Educational Boards.
    • Intermediate and secondary education documents- IBCC.
    • Higher education degrees and transcripts- HEC.
      This process ensures that the authenticity of the documents is verified.

MOFA Attestation Fees

MOFA does not charge for the attestation process itself. However, nominal charges may be applied for postage services if documents are submitted and collected through courier services.

Procedure to get documents attested by MOFA
There are various ways to get the documents attested by MOFA:

  1. Walk-in Submission:
    • One can visit any MOFA office in cities such as Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, Multan, Quetta, or Peshawar.
    • Fill up the prescribed form, attach your documents, and wait for processing, which usually takes 5–6 hours maximum.
  1. Through TCS Courier Service:
    • Submit your documents and CNIC at the nearest TCS office.
    • Pay PKR 600 as courier charges.
    • Processing usually takes 10–15 days.
  1. Through Leopard Courier Service:
    • Self-collection is available at PKR 550 for up to 3 documents.
    • Home delivery is available at PKR 850.
    • Additional charges are applied for extra documents.
